Backing to spool knot: Although we would all like to believe that one day our arbor knot will actually be useful, it rarely, if ever is. Being an extreme optimist when it comes to fly fishing, I want that knot to be the strongest - just in case. I prefer the Pitzen knot, the same one I use to tie fly to leader. Simply loop backing around arbor and form a loop with the backing by pinching with fingers. Next, wrap back over loop 3 times, then go back through the loop that you're pinching with your fingers. Make sure you go over the top of the line. Snug it up and pull it down. If you've tied the knot correctly, you will see and feel it lock. Awesome knot!
